Pornography Addiction

Pornography addiction is essentially a form of sex addiction – or, as we prefer to call it, out-of-control sexual behavior. To some, it seems like a milder, even harmless version of the problem. But it can be very destructive, and it can turn into something much more serious than just watching porn.

Although viewing pornography is in itself a harmless and normal part of human sexuality for both men and women, there is no doubt that use of pornography, for some men especially, can get out of control and harm them and their loved ones. You may be so addicted to porn that it takes up many hours in a week or day. You may neglect your partner and their sexual needs. You may be less available to them and your family. You may be spending excessive amounts of money on your porn addiction, and even jeopardizing your job by watching it at work. Whatever it is, experts agree that the best course of treatment for men who have this problem is usually a combination of individual therapy and some kind of support group for pornography addiction like the one we offer here at IPG, and often marriage counseling or couples therapy, as appropriate. The treatment for pornography addiction is basically the same as for sex addiction, and at IPG we have years of experience with both.

We will start by helping you assess whether your relationship with porn is a problem, and if so we will help you design a treatment program that may include some combination of individual therapy, couples counseling, referrals for medication, and group therapy.

If you think you might have a pornography addiction, you owe it to yourself and your loved ones to get help. And since most of our therapists have specialized training and/or certification in sex therapy and addiction, IPG is uniquely suited to help those who struggle with pornography addiction or sex addiction build a positive sexuality.

Contact one of our pornography addiction therapists today to schedule an appointment or to find out more about our support group for sex and porn addicts.
